On the Taranto seafront you can find beautiful mermaids comfortably seated on the rocks. These statues were made by the sculptor Francesco Trani in solid marine concrete to resist the corrosive action of the waves. Currently renovated, they bring to light one of the oldest local legends, according to which the waters of the city of the two seas were much appreciated by these creatures, who chose a shoal between the coast and the Cheradi islands as the seat of their enchanted world.
