It is one of the monuments of the Borgo Nuovo district. Dedicated to the sailors of the Italian Navy, it was made in bronze by the sculptor Vittorio Di Cobertaldo in 1974, commissioned by Admiral Angelo Iachino, commander of the fleet in Taranto during the Second World War, as a gift to the city after the famous "Taranto Night".
